Student Readiness Checklist
Explore the following list to help guide you in deciding whether your student is ready for our program.
Student Readiness
At Rooted Radicle, we know every child is different and children grow and develop at their own pace. This checklist is a way for families to thoughtfully consider how their child might do in our nature-based co-op environment.
Because we spend our days learning together, working in groups, building relationships, and taking on age-appropriate responsibilities, there are some basic skills that help a student feel comfortable and successful here.
No child is expected to have everything mastered. We’re looking for a general readiness to participate, listen, communicate, work through challenges, and be part of a community. If there are areas where your child is still growing, that’s okay. The goal is simply to make sure our program is a good fit for your child and your family, and that we can set everyone up for a positive experience.
-
Can participate safely in the group environment, with reminders, accommodations, or adult support when needed. Ability to abide by basic safety rules. Students should have a way to communicate when something feels unsafe or overwhelming.
-
Can participate in group activities in a way that works for the individual child, with reasonable supports such as breaks, sensory tools, or alternative ways to participate when needed.
-
Can engage with teachers and respond to direction, with support when needed. Ability to sit for short periods of time for reading and discussions. We recognize that eye contact, sitting still, or responding immediately are not measures of respect.
-
Can interact with other students while respecting personal boundaries and physical space with prompts. Students may communicate differently, need more space, or prefer different ways of connecting, and we make room for those differences while maintaining a safe environment.
